Mudtools Mudsponge
Early on in my clay journey, I spent a great deal of time watching YouTube videos and attempting to make my hands do what so many content creators made look effortless. It's a bit like performance art in my opinion. The way the artist takes a lump of dirt and shapes it into something wonderful is mesmerizing. They also make it look way too straight forward and easy.
Many of my first pieces had obvious potter lines. These are indents from a potters fingers when pressure is applied to the walls during the throwing process. They were wobbly and inconsistent, but still somehow beautiful. While I wasn't dissatisfied with the overall look of my pieces, I was eager to improve my craft. After much trial and error, I decided to invest in these sponges and it was just the catalyst I needed. I highly recommend this tool for those potters who throw clay on a wheel. It helps distribute the pressure more evenly for more even wall thickness and allowed me to throw much larger pieces.
